FEBRUARY 2017
What an exciting month February has turned out to be. Lots of auditions, a couple of competitions but best of all filming on Tellurian has started!
Auditions...There are so many films in development at the moment and a number of them are being filmed in Scotland so that means lots of auditions. Whilst I may not book every role that I audition for, I enjoy the challenge of researching and developing a character, learning my lines and then there's the thrill of the audition itself. Being centre stage with a captive audience who are hoping you will be the person they are looking for...what's not to love?!
Competitions...In between auditions and filming, I've entered a couple of competitions. One of them is Casting Call Pro's 'Tongue Twister with an RP Accent' Competition. For me, it had to be "I'm a pleasant mother pheasant plucker..." which I learned from my acting coach at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (New York Campus), Mr Jody Wood, an amazing actor in his own right as well as a fantastic teacher. You can check out my entry on my Twitter account (just click on the Twitter icon on the Home Page and scroll to Feb 16 tweet).
Filming...But best of all, I was in St Andrews at Scotland's Secret Bunker playing the role of Captain Tellu in IronStar Film's Tellurian this month. What a fantastic cast and crew, I am so privileged to be working with them. It's a Scottish Sci-Fi Film and the costumes, special effects and location are 'out of this world'...see what I did there?
And of course, no February update is complete without a bit of discussion on the Oscars. The drama, the tears, the edge of the seat suspense...and that was just the Best Picture Mixup! No doubt as I type, heads will be rolling somewhere in LA, but it's important to remember that to err is human. Mistakes do happen, even at prestigious awards ceremonies. One upside is that La La Land's Jordan Horowitz got the opportunity to deliver his thank you speech, so it wasn't all bad.
Well, that's almost a wrap for February. But before I go I'd like to leave you with some words of wisdom from the legend that is Denzel Washington, as he paid tribute to young filmmakers like Barry Jenkins.
"This young man made 10, 15, 20 short films before he got the opportunity to make Moonlight. So never give up. Without commitment you'll never start but more importantly without consistency you'll never finish. It's not easy...so keep working, keep striving, never give up. Fall down seven times get up eight." (Denzel Washington’s NAACP Image Award Acceptance Speech, 2017)
