MARCH 2017
What a busy month March has been. I've been so busy, I don't know if I've found a rope or lost a horse!
Headshots...March kicked off with a photography session to bring my headshots up to date and I'm so pleased with the results. You can see them in my Gallery - just click on the tab at the top of this page. The photographer, Scott Cadenhead, has such a lovely way with him that you forget he's pointing his zoom lens at you and relax into a lovely couple of hours feeling like you're the most fabulous person in the world. The only problem is, he does such a fantastic job it is nearly impossible to decide which photos to select! You can find Scott at www.headshotsglasgow.co.uk
I have read that your headshot needs to be a true representation of you on a good day. So, if you're thinking of getting some headshots done, check out my tips below* to help you achieve the best results.
Competitions...You may remember from last month's blog that I entered a couple of acting competitions? The exciting news is that I won @Acting Hour Actor of the Week and was treated to a whole week of promotion by the awesome folk at Acting Hour, for which I am very grateful. Tweet your reel on Wednesdays between 1pm-2pm for your chance to win.
Collaboration...This month was also the month for #DemoReelDay, created by LA-based actor David August (@DavidAugust), hosted by @TheyAct and supported here in the UK by @ActingHour. This event was inspired by #ShowreelShareDay which was created by English actress, Kate Marie Davies (@RealKateDavies) and hosted by @ShowreelShare. Who could believe that such a simple idea would have such amazing results. Kudos to these 2 amazing people!! Their reel sharing platforms on social media give actors the chance to get their work OUT THERE AND SEEN, as well as provide the opportunity to connect with like-minded souls around the globe plus the chance to pay it forward (or in this case, retweet!) And it's not just actors who check out the reels - casting directors and agents take a peek too, so this could be your 'right time, right place' lucky break!
So...March on. Do not tarry. To go forward is to move toward perfection. March on and fear not the thorns, or the sharp stones on life's path. (Khalil Gibran)
*Tips for a great headshot session...
1. Apply make-up sparingly, you want to look as natural as possible;
2. Style your hair the way you normally wear it (you can take clips or a bobble for a couple of different 'looks' but the key is keep it natural);
3. Choose a couple of block-coloured tops in colours that suit you;
4. Try and avoid drinking alcohol the day before your headshot session - alcohol makes your skin dry and your eyes dull;
5. Drink lots of water instead to plump up your skin and put a sparkle in your eyes;
6. But most important of all make sure you get a good night's sleep the night before, sleep is the best beauty treatment out there.
