DECEMBER 2018
December’s career highlight was without a doubt…playing a role in a television series that won a Scottish BAFTA! Huge thanks to Tiger Aspect Productions for casting me as Emma Kean in School’s Out for Murder - Episode 11 of Armchair Detectives.
Nocturnal has been selected for the Sixth Sense Film Festival in India…and I am so proud to play the lead role. This short horror was filmed on a custom-built set as well as on location in Edinburgh and even although I am the only cast member for all days bar one, I had a crew of about 30 to keep me company, my Nocturnal family, whom I love and adore. This film is the brainchild of director/writer Esther S Conroy and had it’s premiere at the prestigious Filmhouse Cinema in Edinburgh. It is terrifying with its abundance of jumpscares but it is also a timely reminder of how isolated some people really are in this connected world of ours.
December is the gifting month as DeadZone is now available on YouTube…yes, you can now watch the entire film and finally find out what happens to my character Stacey. This is another gem of a film by filmmaking duo Leroy Kincaide and Chloe Chudasama of Nocturnal Pictures. They presently have a number of irons in the fire, so fingers crossed I get the opportunity to work with them again in 2019! In the meantime, you can watch DeadZone on this link https://youtu.be/eujdL8FOO_E
Tellurian will now be a feature film thanks to the too-good-not-to-include footage captured by the amazing team at IronStar Films, and is currently nearing completion. Whilst the funding campaign has ended, you can still contribute to this Scottish sci-fi film via JustGiving and PayPal by getting in touch with the filmmakers directly on this link https://www.facebook.com/ironstarfilms/?ref=br_rs And as I always put my money where my mouth is, if you visit Tellurian’s IMDb page, you will see that I am now an Executive Producer. I look forward to welcoming you on board too!
The Weight of Our Travels, a short fantasy film by Puzzle Piece Film, written and directed by Danny Helme is now listed on IMDb, which means it is only a matter of time before I’m able to share the trailer with you. This is a beautiful film about the travellers. Theirs is a world both wild and barren and as the travellers grow and gain memories they take a physical form, which they choose to store inside sack-like objects called carriers. And the best bit is that in my role as The Mother I get to be a little bit musical as well, so stay tuned! Big loves to Alan Livesey, the mastermind behind The Blackout, who recommended me to Danny. As I mentioned in November’s update, this really is an industry that looks after you…so long as you do a fantastic job and are fun and easy to work with on set. You can find out more about The Weight of Our Travels along with the other projects mentioned by visiting my IMDb page on this link imdb.me/hollywoodhouse
2018 HIGHLIGHTS
On reflection…this has been another fantastic year, major life crisis notwithstanding, that has provided a ton of amazing projects as well as lots of opportunities to develop new skills and make new friends. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2019, but in the meantime (and in no particular order) my favourite memories of 2018 are:
Playing the role of Emma Kean in the Scottish BAFTA winning television series, Armchair Detectives, produced by Tiger Aspect Productions which aired on BBC One.
Being signed by Julie McGowan of SAFA, who as well as being a terrific agent is a true friend I can count on - I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us!
DeadZone screening at Cannes 2018 and enjoying the resultant high that followed this amazing news
Playing the lead role in Nocturnal by Esther S Conroy and enjoying a fabulous week in Edinburgh with my Nocturnal family
Watching myself as Fran in Fran and The Moth, a film by Auld Alliance Films, on the big screen at The Prince Charles Cinema, Leicester Square, as part of FrightFest 2018
Attending the UnSub Actors Sunday Sessions Shakespeare Acting Workshop with the brilliant award winning actor Benny Young (who was the Minister in my all-time favourite film Out of Africa, Rob Liddell in Chariots of Fire and most recently Lord Simon Fraser in Outlaw King)
Watching myself as the chillingly evil Emily Moore in Sheltered, a film by Wasp Land Films directed by Ross Kelly, at its London premiere at the 23rd Annual Portobello Film Festival
Successfully auditioning for a place at the Screen Acting and Film Academy
Being able to watch my character, Donna Cameron, in Crime Lord any time I want on AmazonPrime
Catching up with the cast and crew on the set of Tellurian for some pick-up shots and spending another fun day at Scotland’s Secret Bunker
Being back on set with David Wilde for his Showreel Shorts film Dirty Money and playing the successful criminal Aurora Black, it’s so good to be bad!
Watching myself on the big screen in Nocturnal at Filmhouse Cinema in Edinburgh and enjoying a little chuckle as people jumped out of their seats at the scary bits!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
So, thank you for coming on this journey with me. I hope you have enjoyed my monthly updates and I hope to be able to continue to provide you with lots more in 2019.
But for now, I would like to wish you and yours a very happy New Year when it comes and I hope 2019 is a year of love, peace, health and happiness for you. And remember what Brad Paisley said, “Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book. Write a good one."
